Book Week

Wow, one week has gone already. What a busy term we have planned. To start us off we have Book Week. Here is the time table this week so you can be prepared.

Come down and read with your children and grandchildren.	Wear your PJ’s bring your favourite book and cuddle up with a buddy from your Buddy Class to read.		Class groups will move to different classrooms to listen to other staff members read their favourite books.	Dress up as your favourite Animal book character for the parade at 9.00 Quiz at 12.00 will be based on popular children’s literature and books read throughout the week. Focus on Animals in literature. House points will be awarded.

Holidays!!

Wow, it is nearly the holiday's. What are you all going to do?

This week we had our football festival and we were very lucky with the weather. Paige has written an excellent recount of the day so read below to find out what we did.

Middle Syndicate Football Festival

Yesterday from morning tea to lunch we had a football festival with Anton and Zoe. We did the festival because we were practising what we learnt this term. There were ten teams and we versed nine teams then we played the final. All games were ten minutes long. There were five fields and every time we played we played on field four. All of our games were tied so that shows we listened.

Maori Language Week

MAORI LANGUAGE WEEK

TE WIKI O TE REO MAORI

(1 – 7 July 2013 - Week 9)

This week is Maori Language Week so be ready for some exciting activities around te reo.

Lets have fun and learn together!!

The theme is Nga Ingoa Maori – Maori Names

Arohatia te Reo (which means to cherish the language) remains the tahuhu, the base for Maori Language Week, however the ‘ingoa’ theme asks us to consider important matters such as correct pronunciation, understanding the meaning of place names, and using Maori names more often. The teachers and students are going to have a challenge this week to pronounce New Zealand place names correctly and to greet each other in the mornings using ‘kia ora’, ‘ata marie’ or ‘morena’. Matariki

Wow, we have had a busy week learning all about Matariki which is our very own Maori New Year. It is associated with the celebration of harvest, of gifting food, and planning or preparing the ground for the new year's crops. Matariki is a time to come together as whānau (family) and a time for celebration. This year it is also about celebrating the people in our lives we look up to. The shining stars in our school community – the role models who share qualities with Matariki and her daughters.  In Ruma Kotare we made vegetable soup and invited our buddy class to come and share it with us. We also worked in the garden and put the compost in to get our soil ready for planting. We shared stories about the past and legends about Matariki and her sisters.

Sustainable Kai

We have been working really hard with our inquiry about Sustainable Kai. Read all about our journey on our Enviro page. We also have a book in our class where we are putting in our diary entries each time we work in the school garden and a display on our wall to show our journey.
